BMW to invest $600M in S.C. plant, add 1,000 jobs

German automaker BMW will add 1,000 jobs and invest $600 million in its Spartanburg, S.C., plant in an effort to boost annual production to as many 450,000 vehicles. BMW’s facility in Spartanburg is already the company’s largest final assembly plant in the world, employing some 9,000 and building more than 411,000 SUVs and crossovers last year. Spartanburg is some 75 miles southwest of Charlotte.
