Duke Energy earnings up 35%; Charlotte lease deal in works

Duke Energy Corp. reports a 35% increase in second-quarter net income to $686 million, or 98 cents per diluted share. Adjusted earnings reached $707 million, or $1.01 per diluted share, meeting analysts’ expectations. In other developments, Duke will lease 83,000 square feet at Tompkins Hall, an adaptive-reuse project underway north of uptown Charlotte. The company will use the space to permanently accommodate 400 employees.
