Duke Energy pulls plug on Florida nuclear plant

Duke Energy Corp. is cancelling plans to build the Levy County Nuclear Power Plant southwest of Gainesville, Fla. The Charlotte-based company says in a proposed rate-settlement agreement that it will not charge customers for the unbuilt plant and that the utility plans to build or buy 700 megawatts worth of solar capacity in Florida over the next four years. Duke, which last week announced plans to cancel the proposed Lee Nuclear Station in Gaffney, S.C., no longer has any nuclear construction planned.
