Feds subpoena documents on failed V.C. Summer nuclear project

Federal grand jury subpoenas served on S.C. utilities Santee Cooper and SCANA Corp. appear to focus on a 2016 report on the shuttered V.C. Summer nuclear expansion project that state legislators have accused the utilities of attempting to hide. The report, prepared by consulting firm Bechtel 18 months before the partners stopped construction on the two-unit reactor in Jenkinsville, S.C., called into question whether the project could be completed without changes to the contract and on-site operations. In related developments, Santee Cooper appears to be negotiating a deal to cash out its settlement with Toshiba Corp. over the failed project.
