Flowers Foods to shut Triad plant, lay off 169

Flowers Foods will shut its Winston-Salem snack cake operations in early October, a move that will result in the layoff of 169 workers. The Georgia-based company cites outdated equipment and insufficient volume. The planned layoffs come after Flowers Foods announced last month plans to restructure and streamline operations. The company expects to incur closing-associated costs of $4 million to $6 million.
