Kellogg to lay off nearly 500 N.C. workers

Kellogg Co. is closing its distribution centers in Charlotte and Greensboro this summer, a move that will affect nearly 500 workers. The closures, part of a company-wide cost-saving effort, stem from a previously announced decision to shut nearly 40 distribution centers nationwide in favor of using a warehouse system for supplying customers. The Michigan-based cereal and snack manufacturer recently reported a 4.1% drop in first-quarter sales to $3.26 billion.
