Krispy Kreme parent to buy Panera in $7.5B deal

The privately held owner of Winston-Salem-based Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. is expanding its breakfast reach by buying Panera Bread Co. for $7.5 billion. JAB Holdings Inc., which acquired Krispy Kreme in July for nearly $1.4 billion, says it will follow the same format with Missouri-based Panera as it did with Krispy Kreme, converting it into a private company and retaining local management and workforces. The latest deal requires approval of Panera shareholders.
