Lawmakers fund Kannapolis food-manufacturing center

Kannapolis, a city once marred by the shuttering of textile mills, is set to become a leader of the emerging food manufacturing sector thanks to a $5 million state budget provision and research from the agricultural program at N.C. State University. The Food Processing Innovations Center, slated to open in 2018, will be housed at the N.C. Research Campus in Kannapolis.
