MetLife gets closer to spinning off Charlotte business

MetLife has won fresh approvals for its plans to spin off a large portion of its Charlotte-based U.S. retail business. The board of the New York-based insurer has approved the proposed divestiture that would form a company called Brighthouse Financial, as have regulators in the state of Delaware, where Brighthouse’s largest insurance operation is based. MetLife, which employs 1,500 in Charlotte, has said it intends to keep the separated company headquartered in the Queen City.
