N.C. Gov. Cooper pitches plan to raise teacher pay

N.C. Gov. Roy Cooper is calling for public-school teachers to receive an average pay raise of 5% over each of the next two years, a plan that would cost about $813 million. Cooper’s proposal would bring average salaries to more than $52,000 in 2017-18 and nearly $55,000 in 2018-19. The move would push the state’s average teacher pay to the highest in the Southeast within three years.
