N.C. loses 131,000 jobs to China trade imbalance

The U.S. trade imbalance with China has caused North Carolina to lose 131,000 jobs since 2001. That’s according to the Washington, D.C.-based think tank Economic Policy Institute, which says more than 95,000 of the losses occurred between 2001 and 2008, primarily involving furniture and textiles. More recently, job cuts stemming from the trade imbalance have hit North Carolina’s high-tech sector.
