New development proposal in works for Eastland Mall site

Charlotte City Council’s economic development committee has recommended hiring Jacobs Engineering Group and several other urban planning firms to draw up a new master plan for redeveloping the former Eastland Mall site. The City Council is expected to vote on the proposal at its March 27 meeting. The new plan could cost up to $575,000. It will be the fourth attempt at a workable vision for the 80-acre property, which the city bought in 2012 for $13.2 million, two years after the mall closed.
