Report: Wells Fargo’s cutthroat culture simmered for decades

Most Americans have assumed their bank accounts are sacrosanct. But then a major sales scandal erupted last September at Wells Fargo & Co. In a recent profile in Vanity Fair magazine, former employees illuminate the alarming pressures that existed at the bank for decades that, they say, helped lead to the opening of unauthorized accounts. In other developments, longtime Wells Fargo executive David Carroll, 60, will retire next month.
