Silent Sam controversy plagues Tar Heel campus, Folt says

Continued controversy over the Confederate “Silent Sam” statue at UNC Chapel Hills “runs the risk of continuing to drain energy and goodwill that we worked so hard to maintain on our campus,” Chancellor Carol Folt told the school’s board of trustees. State lawmakers have spoken out against moving the statue, while Gov. Roy Cooper said in August that the university could move the statue because of safety concerns.
