Solar developers target Duke Energy

Charlotte-based NARENCO and three other solar developers are alleging that Duke Energy Corp.’s utilities in South Carolina are bargaining in bad faith and violating federal and state policies by refusing to sign long-term power-purchase agreements. They also contend that Duke has blocked the development of solar projects in the state. In other developments, Duke plans to delay construction on a natural gas “peaker” plant south of Asheville, citing a desire to transition to cleaner energy sources.
