UNC President: More work on student outcomes, affordability needed

University of North Carolina President Margaret Spellings, speaking at a higher-education symposium at UNC-Chapel Hill on Tuesday, said that universities have made limited progress on essential reforms outlined more than a decade ago and that work needs to be done on measuring student learning results. Spellings, who was U.S. education secretary under former President George W. Bush, also targeted a lack of affordability in higher education and called for universities to better contain costs.
