An explosion in rezoning petitions reflects a building boom in Charlotte. Developers have filed 190 rezoning petitions through November 2017, up from 151 last year, setting what appears to be a record for the city.
German vinyl extrusion company VEKA plans to invest $18 million in a new Morganton, creating 102 jobs. The plans were announced after the city and Burke County approved incentives matching 50 percent of the company’s new taxable investment for seven years. The One N.C. Fund will also pay $500,000 to the company.
Hughes Furniture Industries Inc. is nearly doubling its Asheboro production facility, adding 103,000 square feet. The company’s Asheboro expansion follows a decision earlier this year to hold off on a 500,000-square-foot distribution center.
Charlotte-based Duke Energy has bought the shares in California-based REC Solar that it didn’t already own. The purchase expands Duke’s clean energy offerings for commercial and industrial companies. Duke Energy had owned the majority of shares in the company since 2015.
