Smithfield Foods Inc. will invest $100 million in its pork-processing operations in Bladen County, creating 280 jobs. The project includes the construction of a 500,000-square-foot distribution center and the expansion of the plant’s cold storage capabilities. Smithfield’s Tar Heel facility, with 5,000 employees, is the largest pork-processing plant in the world.
