A Winston-Salem-based aviation maintenance business will lay off 345 workers and permanently close this week. North State Aviation, headquartered at the Smith Reynolds Airport, cites an “unforeseeable significant downturn in business” as the cause of the closing. The company’s second location in Kinston, which opened in September 2015, has already shut down.
